How to Capture Your Own Legendary

Pokémon GO: How to Capture Your Own Legendary

If you’re anything like us, then you fondly remember playing the original Pokémon games after school on a small handheld system designed by Nintendo. The monster-catching franchise has come a long way since those early days, though. There are now over 700 different Pokémon to be captured, making the ultimate dream of becoming a Pokémon Master that much harder.

With the release of Pokémon GO, however, fans finally were granted their one wish to capture Pokémon in the real world. It may be augmented reality, but it is still sweeping the world by storm. Some are wondering, however, where the most powerful Pokémon in the game are and how they can be captured!

Mewtwo, Mew, Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres

The five iconic Pokémon known as the originals are some of the most well-known across the entire world. Unfortunately, some are unsure whether these creatures are even in the game yet. Well, it is safe to say that they actually are. Some lucky trainers have already discovered their own legendary. Mewtwo, for example, an impressive base attack of 284, which is astounding. The legendary has no capture rate, though, which leads us to believe players can snag them in a different way.

Where can we find them?

The very first one – Articuno – was discovered in early August at a captured gym in Ohio. Players have since verified this occurrence, but no one actually knows how the player captured the Pokémon yet. Developer Niantic is said to have offered the legendary as a sort of apology to the player in question, which seems unlikely. Many in the community are questioning this, as Niantic is not known for offering freebies to the players for any reason. It could happen, but it seems unlikely to us.

The chances of physically spotting a Moltres are almost nill right now, sadly.

When will they be in the game?

Everyone, including us, is asking when the first generation Pokémon will officially appear in the game. Well, the simple answer to that question is that it could be quite soon. A first generation Mew is being offered at various retail stores for 3DS games – it would not be surprising in the least if Niantic followed up this launch with their own update to include a new Pokémon or two.

Another tease within the game is quite obvious, too. Each player who reaches level 5 must select their own team from a selection of three – Team Instinct, Team Mystic, and Team Valor. These three Pokémon teams are tied to each powerful bird – Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres, respectively. Playing for one of these teams could be the key to unlocking your own bird over time. They do need to be implemented into the game first, though.

For now, players need to be patient and wait for any word from the development studio.

How to catch them?

It is currently unknown as to how the player will catch their own Articuno or Mew. Some players in the community believe it won’t be done using a simple Pokeball, though, so be prepared for some type of a test or challenge to score your very own. We’d like to imagine some type of a grand battle between all three – with the player intervening with their own Pokémon team – and we must help one of the rare birds combat its opponents. Perhaps then this rare bird would select our in-game trainer to be their new master. Hey, a budding Pokémon trainer can certainly dream of such a happening, though we’re not holding our breath for now. Niantic will reveal more soon enough!
