Pokemon Go: Will The Trading Feature Encourage More Cheating?

Trading is one of the features that many players are anxiously waiting for. However, some players are afraid of the possible cheating that will be introduced once the feature is added. Cheating in Pokemon Go is already fairly common.

The types of cheating usually involved are spoofing to get stronger Pokemon, take over gyms, or hatch eggs quickly. If Trading is introduced players fear that the game will become a pay2win leaving non-cheaters and casual players at the mercy of cheating players. Let’s look at how trading can break the game.

Players fear that trading will create “global market” where cheaters will greatly profit from selling their strong Pokemon. This would leave out players who don’t have money to participate or who don’t want Pokemon from spoofed accounts.

Players who have the means to buy the strongest Pokemon will get so far ahead of those that don’t. Taking over gyms and keeping them will be much easier for these paying players. The benefits of keeping multiple Pokemon in gyms for days creates huge gains for those players. The chance to get 10 in game credit per Pokemon every day is a good feature.

The problem is when the same players in a town or city hold the majority of gyms for days without anyone really being able to challenge them. The trading system has the possible danger of making this problem worse.

These are just some of the problems that have many trainers worried about when the trading feature goes live. Players are hoping that Niantic introduces trading with features that will prevent cheaters from taking advantage. As always let us know what you think.
