UPDATE: Niantic changes and expands Tracking System! NEW DETAILS!

Niantic is just full of surprises this evening! I am over here trying to handle the Dittosituation and they go and make another announcement regarding tracking system!

That is right! Niantic has acknowledges that it was time to change and revamp the tracking system once again in terms of how sightings work. We do not have information as to why Niantic limited the release to the certain regions that they did, but as of now, every state west of Mississippi, Australia, and a large portion of Canada will receive the updated tracking system. Below is a direct announcement from Niantic:

”  The Nearby feature has expanded to new areas

Trainers,

After reviewing your feedback, we have made some changes to the Nearby feature we were originally testing in San Francisco, California. We have changed the feature to only show the Nearby feature if a PokéStop is close to your location. In addition, we have also made changes to the way Sightings now works.

We will be expanding the ability for Trainers to test this updated version of the features and provide us with feedback. Starting today, Trainers in the following areas will now be able to use the new Nearby and Sightings functionality:

United States of America: All states west of the Mississippi River (except Hawaii and Alaska)

Canada: British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the western half of Ontario.

Australia: All states and territories

Reddit user Dronepes did a very, very good job at reading between the lines and adding information beyond the announcement:

“That is a LOT of communication for Niantic. They just shared that they:

  1. Have been reviewing feedback and consequently changed the Nearby feature
  2. Acknowledged feedback submitted to “all of our official social media accounts and posted in other channels is important to us.”
  3. Committed to continuing to review community feedback and “make changes if necessary”

We’ve never seen a statement like this from them before. This is a good day. :)”

Facebook user Steph Fers shared the following picture too!

I am not sure where you get your feedback from how ever this is by far the most stupid game breaking change you have done to date.

If i am in the street i can only see what is at the stop 500 mtrs away and not what is 20 mtrs up the road from me. To add to this now when the stop has 5 Zubats around it all i see on my nearby is 5 zubats even though there is up to 20 or 30 other pokemon in my immediate area !!!

Basicly you have made the tracking system a non functioning useless system that does not actually track anything except maybe 10% of the useless pokermon that spawn at the stops 100s of meters away.

Well done on having 0 logic !!
